OVERLAND PARK HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Founded September 30, 1994.
The mission of the Overland Park Historical Society is to collect, preserve, research, exhibit, and educate the public about the history of the region of Overland Park, Kansas, and the surrounding area from prehistoric times to the present. The Society focuses on publishing documents and videos as well as providing historical information and programs.
In September 1998 it began its occupancy of the Strang Carriage House. The City of Overland Park renovated the building, and members of the Overland Park Historical Society raised money and donated many hours of labor to finish and furnish the interior. The limestone structure, built ca. 1910 housed the personal vehicles and chauffer of William Strang, the founder of Overland Park. It is staffed by volunteers at scheduled hours.
Members of The Board of Directors are nominated from and elected by the general membership. The Board of Directors elects the society’s officers from the membership of the Board of Directors.
